This is a weekly discussion of LOST. SPOILERS BELOW!
Well, this was a pretty crazy episode! It filled in a lot of gaps, which is always appreciated.
It looks as though everything is pretty much falling apart for the LOST-ies. From what I can tell, they won’t even be able to head back to the beach at this point. I have a feeling the next episode is not going to be pretty.
Let’s start with the most shocking – is Daniel Faraday going to die? I think he is, and it’s absolutely horrible. He was one of my favorite characters, I was so excited about him coming back. It’s horrible to think that his mother sent him back to the Island, knowing what would happen to him. I predicted that Widmore was Daniel Faraday’s father, so that didn’t really come as a shock. Also, why in the world did he walk into the Others’ camp with a gun? He could have gotten a lot farther had he not. And doesn’t Daniel’s mother kind of just suck at life?
Do you think Juliet told Kate the code to the fence because she wanted to get rid of her? I really do wonder. On one hand, I feel like Juliet is above that. But on the other hand, I think that hearing Sawyer beg for Kate to stay and calling her “Freckles” was a little too much for Juliet.
I’m glad to know that Desmond is okay, though I didn’t actually think he would die. I hope he starts playing a larger part in the story soon. I also would love to see more of Sun, Locke and Ben. And speaking of, where is Little Ben? Is he still at the temple being healed?
I do like the idea that our LOST-ies can change the past. It’s something I’ve always hoped for since this whole time travel thing started.
All right, I think that’s it, but I may have missed something. There was a lot going on this episode. Any thoughts?

you got to know no one dies for long except for the minority characters!!! so Daniel will be back. also i didn’t hear very well when Daniel explain to jack and kate what was going to happen. what was that all about? I just love the way all the links are happening. everyone is connected to everyone else. future or in the past everyone has something to do with everyone else. I wonder if the writers knew this when they started the show. i really would like to know if someone knew all these storylines when the show first started. or else these writers are really screwy!!!!

I’m scared Desmond will die because Henry Ian cusick just got sued for sexual harassment from a former ABC worker. I’m still waiting for Jin to die unexpectedly from Daniel Dae Kim’s arrest!
Yes Farrady’s mother sucks at life. If only she had let him have a girlfriend. He needed a girlfriend to fix that horrible mess of hair he had when he graduation.
Loved Sawyer’s nickname for Farrady….twitchy.
So if they change things in the past so that stuff won’t happen, what will happen to what’s happening in the future? Like if they destroy the hatch, and desmond is back in the real world, will he not be there anymore? i’m getting all sorts of confused.
I swear I need to write down my thoughts when i watch b/c by the time i get to your blog I’ve forgotten half the stuff!

i have heard there will be a major death by the end of the season.

I wouldn’t be so quick to demonize Eloise. She devoted her life to making sure that Daniel developed his gift for science as much as possible and returned to the island. There must be a reason. I predict that what they find in his notes will save all their lives. If you look at it this way, she is a victim of circumstance and is forced to bear an incredible burden. Remember when she slaps Charles in the face for suggesting that his poor relationship with Penny is a “sacrifice”? She is sending her son off to his death, for the greater good. That’s a sacrifice. You can even add that to the long list of parallels this story has with religious parables.

Poor Daniel. That was pretty cold of Eliose to send him off to die like that.

I have to say that I think things MUST be like what Josh said…things MUST have to happen a certain way. It seemed to me that it pained Eloise to be so cold with Daniel. Still, I want to know WHY.

“And doesn’t Daniel’s mother kind of just suck at life?” Yeah, I couldn’t agree more.
And to Josh’s comment above, I thought she slapped Charles when he said Daniel was his son too, not when she talked about sacrifice.

I’ve never been a Faraday fan, but I really was sad to see him die! I loved knowing that when he experimented on Teresa, he firmly expected it to work, having tested it on himself first. Knowing he thought he had taken every precaution really made me feel better about his character. Plus, after seeing him grow up, how could you not feel more warmly about him?
I do think he is dead, and if we see him again it will either be as someone Hurley talks to or Miles will talk to his spirit or body to figure out how to save the island.

yeah, I thought there was a lot in here, and I am stumped by Mrs. Hawking’s motivations too. If she does believe that what happens happens, then she wouldn’t have to work so hard to make sure he became a scientist and went back to the island… it would have happened inevitably. So – there must be something more that she is setting into play.
And – yes, I do think that they’ll find his journal and it will make a huge difference, but wouldn’t that have already happened? In the past? She would have found it and that’s why she gave it to him in the beginning – so that she would find it in the past? I wrote about that here: http://kaciesmixedmedia.blogspot.com/2009/05/lost-thoughts-is-it-all-determined-or.html
