In Grace Among Thieves, a film crew is on the grounds of Marshfield Manor, which makes it difficult for Grace to protect the historic old home from thieves who have been targeting similar houses across the country. But when a tourist is murdered on Marshfield’s grounds, Grace must face a whole new set of difficulties.

In Grace Takes Off, Grace and Bennett have escaped from the pressures of Marshfield and gone a whirlwind tour of Europe. But on their flight home, a woman tries to poison Bennett, and Grace must figure out who she is and why she might wish them harm.

The Manor House Mystery series is an engaging set of cozy mystery novels with a smart and sophisticated main character. Grace is easy to like and sympathize with in these books; whether they pick up the first book  in the series or the fourth (Grace Takes Off), they’ll immediately be drawn to her as she tries to figure out what’s going on. She’s really sharpened her detective skills over the course of this series, so she knows what to look for and trusts her instincts completely.

Grace Among Thieves and Grace Takes Off are both quick reads, but they’re very engaging. Readers will want to read them in one sitting, as Hyzy crafts great twists and turns for the stories. Admittedly, the murder in Grace Among Thieves feels a little stale, as it’s yet another murder at this small, enclosed setting, but the author freshens things up with Grace Takes Off. It’s a nice change of setting, and also introduces new challenges for the characters at the end of the book.

If you’re a fan of cozy mysteries, then Grace Among Thieves and Grace Takes Off are definite must reads. If you’re not sure what cozy mysteries are, well, if you like smart, strong female characters, murder mysteries, and well-detailed settings, then you should definitely seek out these books without hesitation.
