In this first Veronica Mars novel, which takes place right after the events of The Veronica Mars Movie, Veronica is back in Neptune and working for Mars Investigations. It’s spring break and Neptune has been flooded with spring breakers. But when one of them goes missing, the owner of the Neptune Grand Hotel hires Veronica to find out what happened and who might be behind the disappearance.
If you’re a Veronica Mars fan and have seen the movie, then picking up Veronica Mars: The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line is really a no brainer. The book maintains the sharp wit and smartness of the TV series. And the audiobook provides an additional treat—Kristin Bell (Veronica Mars herself) does the narration. Not only is it fun to hear Bell’s interpretation of the other characters in the series, but her voice also pulls the reader firmly back into the Veronica Mars universe. If you haven’t watched the series, I’d at least see the movie before venturing into this book, but for fans of the series, the audiobook is absolutely the way to go. Readers will really enjoy the experience, as well as the intriguing mystery that Thomas and Graham present.
