Marquitta “Skeet” O’Bannion has settled down in a small town as chief of a group of college campus police officers. There are people who can’t understand why she left her position as the highest ranking woman in the Kansas City police force, but Skeet had her reasons. When one of Skeet’s officers stumbles upon the dead body of the editor of the school newspaper, Skeet starts to think her new job may not be so quiet after all. She must sort through the murdered man’s many enemies, and ends up finding herself in the middle of the school’s complicated politics.

Snapshot Review:

Looking for a new crime series with a complex main character? Skeet O’Bannion is the woman for you. Her Cherokee background adds some depth to the character, while her tough attitude will delight readers. She doesn’t have the easiest background, with a sick father and an ex-husband who doesn’t know when to quit. Readers will enjoy getting to know Skeet as she navigates her way through the mystery in Every Last Secret.

Rodriguez writes a gripping story, with many twists and turns for the reader to enjoy. She depicts small town life well and really knows the ins and outs of a college campus, particularly in the politics among the major players. Readers who enjoy strong characters and page-turning mysteries will appreciate Every Last Secret. It’s the first in a series, so if you enjoy it, there’s plenty more of Skeet O’Bannion to discover.
